Frame-Building:  A Special Process

I have always enjoyed the special feel that hand-built objects have. There is a spiritual connection to the person who has created the object and the object itself. It is in this tradition that I design and build my frames for many of my paintings. The frame becomes part of the painting. This is a Zen thing, the process being very important. The frames structure consists of different wood profiles selected and altered according to visual harmonies. Each frame requires careful balance in harmonizing with the art. The profiles are then sanded, layered, cut and assembled. The final process is the glazing of different colours onto the frame. These glazes are usually applied over a red or green under-painting.
